In a ceremonial event attended by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and the Amir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Boeing and Qatar Airways announced the largest widebody aircraft order in the American manufacturer’s history. The multibillion-dollar deal includes the purchase of up to 210 aircraft, marking a significant boost for the U.S. economy and a strategic move for Qatar’s national carrier.
Under the agreement, Qatar Airways has ordered 130 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 30 777-9 models, with an option for an additional 50 aircraft from the same series. This order sets a record as Boeing’s largest widebody deal, simultaneously making Qatar Airways the largest Dreamliner operator in the Middle East. The deal is estimated to support around 400,000 jobs in the U.S., reinforcing the aviation industry’s importance to the global economy.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is known for exceptional fuel efficiency, consuming 25% less fuel than older models. The 777-9 sets new standards in long-haul travel, offering reduced emissions and superior passenger comfort. This fleet will enable Qatar Airways to further expand its global reach, strengthening its position as one of the world’s most prestigious airlines.
“With this agreement, we are securing the most advanced and eco-friendly fleet and building the strength to deliver unmatched passenger experiences,” said Qatar Airways Group CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer. Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, emphasized that the partnership with Qatar Airways will enhance global connectivity with industry-leading efficiency.
Qatar Airways, an eight-time winner of Skytrax’s “World’s Best Airline” title, already operates more than 150 Boeing aircraft. This order further solidifies its leadership in innovation and sustainability, having become the first airline certified under IATA’s highest environmental standards.
With over 170 destinations and an award-winning hub in Doha, Qatar Airways continues its mission of connecting the world, while Boeing reaffirms its leading role in widebody aircraft manufacturing. This collaboration opens a new chapter in aviation history, focusing on sustainability, technological advancement, and global connectivity.
