Biman Bangladesh Airlines is continuing a major fleet renewal and expansion program with a new order for 11 Boeing aircraft. The Bangladeshi flag carrier has ordered five Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners and six 737-8s, bringing the number of Boeing aircraft ordered by the airline in 2026 to 25.

The latest order follows an agreement signed earlier this year, when Biman ordered 14 aircraft from the 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX families. The signing of the supplemental agreement took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, attended by representatives of the governments of Bangladesh and the United States, as well as senior officials from Boeing and Biman.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines Chairman Rumee A. Hossain said the new order forms part of a broader plan to renew the airline’s fleet and expand its international network.

According to Hossain, the additional aircraft address specific requirements within the airline’s long-term fleet plan, while Biman intends to continue developing its network in line with growing demand from Bangladeshi passengers, the expatriate community, the business sector and tourism.

Biman currently operates Boeing 787 Dreamliners, 777s and 737 Next Generation aircraft across its international network, connecting Bangladesh with destinations in the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, and Europe.

The introduction of the 787-10 will provide the airline with a higher-capacity aircraft to complement its existing 787-8 and 787-9 fleet. The largest Dreamliner variant is primarily suited to high-demand routes, while the new 737-8s will provide additional capacity and range across the airline’s narrowbody network.

Boeing states that the 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner families deliver approximately 20 to 25 percent better fuel efficiency compared with the aircraft they replace, supporting Biman’s efforts to reduce operating costs and continue modernizing its fleet.

Brad McMullen, Boeing Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, said the follow-on order reflects Biman’s fleet renewal and capacity growth strategy, as well as the long-standing partnership between the two companies.

With the latest purchase, Biman is further strengthening its reliance on Boeing aircraft, while maintaining fleet commonality and gradually increasing capacity to support further growth of its international network.
