Atlantic Airways, the national airline of the Faroe Islands, has signed a firm order for two additional Airbus A320neo aircraft. The agreement, announced on 27 October, marks another step towards an all-A320neo fleet, enabling the airline to improve operational efficiency and simplify maintenance.
The carrier currently operates four A320 Family aircraft, comprising two A320ceos and two A320neos. The new order supports its ongoing fleet renewal, although delivery dates for the additional aircraft were not disclosed in the announcement.
Niels Mortensen, Chairman of the Board of Atlantic Airways, said the airline aims to operate an exclusively A320neo fleet in the near future. He described the agreement as an important step towards that goal, adding that the investment would ensure continued fleet renewal while supporting efficient operations.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President of Sales for Commercial Aircraft, highlighted the importance of the ongoing partnership with Atlantic Airways and the airline’s role in connecting the Faroe Islands. He added that the acquisition of two additional latest-generation aircraft reinforces the carrier’s commitment to regional connectivity.
According to the manufacturer, the A320 Family has secured more than 20,400 orders worldwide. Airbus states that its latest-generation aircraft offer at least 20% lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions compared with previous-generation single-aisle aircraft, alongside one of the widest cabins in their segment.
