Egyptian carrier AIRCAIRO has placed a firm order for 15 Airbus A320neo aircraft, marking the first time the airline will directly own newly acquired Airbus aircraft alongside a fleet currently operated largely through leasing arrangements.

The agreement was signed on September 8 during the El Alamein International Airshow 2026 in Egypt. The order forms part of the airline’s long-term expansion strategy, under which AIRCAIRO plans to grow its fleet to more than 130 aircraft by 2034.

AIRCAIRO has recorded significant growth in recent years. Five years ago, the airline operated a fleet of seven aircraft, while today it has more than 45. The new A320neo aircraft are expected to provide additional capacity and support further expansion of the carrier’s domestic, regional and international network.

AIRCAIRO Chairman and CEO Hussein Sherif said that combining owned aircraft with leased fleet capacity would provide the airline with greater operational flexibility and financial efficiency as it continues to expand.

According to Sherif, the additional capacity provided by the A320neo will enable AIRCAIRO to further develop its network and respond to growing demand for travel to and from Egypt, while also supporting the country’s aviation and tourism sectors.

Airbus said the agreement represents AIRCAIRO’s first direct aircraft purchase from the European manufacturer.

The Airbus A320 Family has received more than 20,200 orders worldwide. According to the manufacturer, A320neo-generation aircraft offer at least 20% lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions compared with previous-generation single-aisle aircraft.
