European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has released details of its share buyback transactions carried out between October 5 and 9, 2026. During this period, the company repurchased a total of 780,000 shares at a weighted average price of €187.98 per share, bringing the total value of the transactions to approximately €146.6 million.

The transactions form part of a share buyback programme announced by Airbus on September 11, 2026, primarily intended to support future employee share ownership initiatives and equity-based compensation plans. Such programmes allow employees to participate in company ownership or receive part of their compensation in shares, aligning their long-term interests with Airbus’ business performance and market value.

According to the published figures, Airbus repurchased 195,000 shares on October 5 at an average price of €189.23 per share, followed by another 95,000 shares on October 6 at an average price of €188.67. The highest daily volume was recorded on October 7, when the company acquired 310,000 shares at an average price of €187.57. The final transactions during the reporting period took place on October 8, with 180,000 shares purchased at an average price of €186.96. No share buyback transactions were reported for October 9.

All transactions were executed on markets identified by the trading codes XPAR and XETA, corresponding to Euronext Paris and Germany’s Xetra electronic trading platform.

The share buyback programme is based on the authorisation granted to the Airbus Board of Directors by shareholders at the company’s Annual General Meeting held on April 14, 2026. Under this authorisation, Airbus may repurchase up to 10% of its issued share capital. However, this percentage represents the maximum permitted limit rather than necessarily indicating the intended size of the current programme.

Share buybacks are a common capital management instrument used by major corporations for various purposes, including employee compensation programmes, reducing the number of shares in circulation and optimising capital structure. In the case of Airbus’ current programme, the emphasis is on securing shares needed to meet future employee-related obligations rather than an announced reduction in share capital.

Airbus disclosed the transactions in accordance with the European Union’s Market Abuse Regulation (EU) No 596/2014, which establishes transparency and reporting requirements for certain transactions carried out by issuers of securities. Airbus shares are listed on European stock exchanges under the ticker symbol AIR.
