New sessions of the fear of flying program will take place at Zagreb Airport on October 18 and November 28, 2026, targeting people who avoid air travel due to fear or experience discomfort during flights. The program includes expert lectures, practical exercises, and two flights on the Zagreb – Split – Zagreb route, during which participants will receive continuous support from a team of specialists.
The program is organized in cooperation with Zagreb International Airport (MZLZ) and Croatia Airlines. Over the past 15 years, several hundred participants from Croatia and the wider region have successfully completed it. The upcoming sessions follow a program held on May 9 this year, when participants also attended training at Zagreb Airport’s passenger terminal before taking a return flight to Split.
The full-day training program is designed to familiarize participants with various aspects of aviation and help them understand situations that commonly trigger fear or discomfort during flights. Through a series of lectures, specialists will explain the roles of pilots, cabin crew, and air traffic controllers, the causes of turbulence, the effects of weather conditions on flights, and the origin and meaning of common sounds heard inside an aircraft cabin.
A dedicated part of the program focuses on the psychological aspects of fear of flying. Participants will have the opportunity to better understand their emotional and physical reactions and learn techniques for relaxation and managing anxiety. The training incorporates elements of cognitive behavioral therapy and body-oriented psychotherapy, aiming to gradually reduce fear and build confidence.
An important component of the program is the practical flying experience. After completing the educational sessions, participants will board a Croatia Airlines aircraft and travel from Zagreb to Split, returning to Zagreb later the same day. A team of specialists will accompany them on both flights, allowing participants to apply the knowledge and techniques acquired during the training in a real-world flying environment.
Holding the program at Zagreb Airport’s passenger terminal also allows participants to become familiar with the airport environment and pre-flight procedures. This approach gradually introduces them to different stages of air travel, from arriving at the airport to the flight itself, potentially reducing uncertainty and discomfort.
The program is intended both for individuals who completely avoid flying due to fear and for passengers who regularly travel by air but experience significant discomfort or anxiety. Its objective is to help participants develop greater confidence and enjoy a more comfortable travel experience, whether flying for business or leisure.
